World Bank, Stockholm, Sweden (24 May 2017) - Migration, Displacement and Violent Extremism: Confronting Emerging Realities
Noring was invited as a panel member by The World Bank and KNOMAD to share the most recent findings in the Brookings Paper on refugee settlement and labour market integration at SIPRI. The overall aim of the workshop was to inform policy on the linkages between migration, displacement, and violent extremism. This included a regionally specific dialogue on Sweden’s migration policy and integration strategies toward refugees and asylum seekers fleeing violent extremism (in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan in particular).
COST FP2004 GreenInUrbs, Orvieto, Italy (April 2017) - Green Infrastructure
Luise was a Keynote speaker at this Conference about Green Infrastructure - Nature based solution for sustainable and resilent cities.
The session explored the different ways in which first mover cities ‘finance and govern urban regeneration towards more sustainable cities’, including deploying new institutional vehicles and innovative finance mechanisms. The conference was hosted by COST FP2004 GreenInUrbs, which is a large-scale EU-funded initiative.
La Fabrique de la Cite, Paris (10 March 2017) - From Asylum-Seeking to City-Making: Asylum-Seekers and Refugees in European Cities
Noring contributed to a series of workshops on « From Asylum-Seeking to City-Making: Asylum-Seekers and Refugees in European Cities » with the latest research findings of the Brookings Centennial Scholar initiative on Cities and refugees: The German experience. Emphasis was on the way cities experience, and respond to, the mass influx of population at a very pragmatic level. Noring shared findings on how German cities tackled the initial reception of the refugees and what the flows of competencies and funding were.
NRN-LCEE, Cardiff, England (6 July 2016) - Cities and Nature-based Solutions
The Sêr Cymru National Research Network for Low Carbon, Energy and Environment (NRN-LCEE) is a major pan-Wales initiative funded by the Welsh Government Sêr Cymru initiative and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
The Network supports collaborative and interdisciplinary research in Wales into the interactions between land, water, the provision of food and energy production, at different spatial scales across air-land-water systems.
HafenCity University, Hamburg, Germany (7 June 2016) - Innovative Governance and Finance for Green Urban Infrastructure
As a plenum guest lecturer, Luise Noring gave a presentation for the HCU fellows program regarding Governance and Finance of Sustainable Urbanisation.
At the end of her presentation, Christian Kern (of TU Wien) will provide a commentary. Luise subsequently provided a commentary of Christan Kern's presentation "Integration of Digital and Physical Design-Methods".
Urban Agenda, Utrecht, Netherlands (31 May 2016) - Governance and Finance for Sustainable Cities
This conference aims for strengthening synergies between the EU Urban Agenda, the EU research agenda on Nature Based Solutions and the potential of Urban Green Infrastructure.
During the conference, we showed and discussed the potential of using spatially explicit data for evidence based local policymaking, thus enhancing the awareness for and acceptance of nature based solutions and green infrastructure in the local policy arena. We explored the possibility of setting up a partnership on urban green infrastructure. We also discussed further mainstreaming Green Infrastructure and Nature-based solutions in other partnerships under the EU Urban Agenda.

The Joint European Conference in Bonn brings together experts from science, policy and practice to highlight and discuss the importance of nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation in urban areas and their rural surroundings. The conference is part of a multi-year series, held by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the European Network of Heads of Nature Conservation Agencies (ENCA) in co-operation with the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) / German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv).

The CTCN provides technical and economic support for enabling the transfer of green technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. This conference was hosted by the European Commission - DG Climate and The Climate Technology Centre and Network.
